In Euromoney's 2005 Awards for Excellence, HSBC has won seven regional and country awards including Best Bank in the Middle East and Best at Treasury and Risk Management in Asia.

In the Middle East, HSBC won the regional awards for Best Bank as well as for the Best Cash Management House. Euromoney noted that while other international banks have sometimes shown a wavering commitment to the region, HSBC has been solidly committed. In addition, Euromoney says that no financial institution has been more effective than HSBC in their "ability to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions and to provide the products and services that keep them ahead of the competition". As well as the two regional awards, HSBC/Saudi British Bank also won the award for Best Equity House in Saudi Arabia for their role in the flotation of Al Marai Dairies and the US$400 million privatization of insurance company NCCI.

In Asia, HSBC won the regional award for Best at Treasury and Risk Management for the eighth consecutive year, not only dominating market share but also demonstrating "innovative risk management skills". Once again, HSBC also won the Best Bank in Hong Kong award as well as the Best Debt House in Hong Kong with Euromoney citing its dominance of the Hong Kong dollar debt market as "nothing short of vice-like". Finally, HSBC won the Best Debt House in Singapore award having been "the number one bookrunner of bonds and loans in all currrencies for Singapore borrowers and the number one bookrunner for all Singapore dollar bonds and loans in Singapore".
