Connecting with our local community

6 July 2009

On 4 June, over 150 colleagues of the HSBC Private Bank in Switzerland spent a working day in the field helping local non profit association’s work on environmental projects.

Launched in 2006, Team Up 4 Tomorrow is the staff volunteering day of HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA in support of local communities. As part of it’s commitment to Corporate Sustainability, the Swiss Bank offers each colleague a day to volunteer in the local community every year. To date over 700 colleagues have participated in this event. The objective is to lend our partner associations a concrete helping hand, engaging our colleagues in useful team-building projects outside the office.

Our policy is to focus our efforts on education - particularly for disadvantaged young people - and the environment – with an emphasis on climate change.

The hard work and enthusiasm demonstrated by our colleagues on 4 June allowed us to help our partner associations to accomplish concrete results, such as:

  • Clean the banks and bottom of Lake Geneva by bringing together a large number of volunteers and divers;

  • Rid the “Werdinsel” in Zurich of the litter accumulated over the winter;

  • Remove invading weeds from three natural reserves in Zurich and Geneva to allow the local eco-system to continue flourishing;

  • Build bird shelters for protected species in Ticino;

  • Aid the Sustainable Development Festival in raising awareness by animating stands and distributing brochures in Geneva.

The second chapter of our 2009 Team Up 4 Tomorrow days will be held mid-September, this time in collaboration with associations working in the domain of child education. Again, projects have been set-up in Geneva, Zurich and Lugano, involving approximately another 150 colleagues, with the objective to offer associations approximately 260 days of volunteer time and support!
